Prayer for Wisdom

James 1:5-6 teach us to go directly to God for the wisdom needed to successfully manage adversity.  The context deals with God’s sovereign design in afflictions—with the great blessings suffering can produce in our lives, and how the Christian must respond in order for those blessings to become reality (James 1:2-4).  Prayer is an expression of our dependence upon God as well as an admission of our limitations.  We are instructed to pray to God for the wisdom that will lead us in the right path, and watch for His answer.  One of the ways God gives wisdom is by inclining the heart to one course of action.  So, with confidence we submit our way to Him, ask Him to direct our steps, and then observe the inclination of our hearts.
